You don't look Asian or have an Asian accent
::facepalm:: Oh lord, someone just tried the The characters hardly even look Asian, and never had Asian accents argument. ::cries::


    Me: I didn't know there was a certain "look" or "accent" I had to subscribe to in order to be considered Asian.
    Ken: Hm?
    Me: If lack of Asian accent means the kids in Avatar aren't "Asian"...and I don't have an Asian accent either, then...
    ...
    Me: Does that mean that I'M NOT ASIAN?
    ...
    Me: FINALLY I CAN SHED THESE SHACKLES OF OPPRESSION FOR LO, I AM WHITE! MY ENGLISH SPEAKING ABILITIES DEEM IT SO!

    Ken: I guess we don't have an interracial relationship anymore
    Me: I know!!! But it's okay Ken. We'll just have to find other ways to be politically correct!
    Ken: Well, we did adopt a non-white unicorn child...
    Me: Yeah, that was very Brangelina of us!
    Ken: Indeed.

    Me: What can I do now that I'm white? I mean, other than be the Prince of Persia.

    Ken: Yes, now that we know your accent won't upset the viewers, you're perfect for it. Just pick any role that hasn't been claimed yet

    Me: No. But I'm white and so is appa so at least that's accurate amirite?
    Ken: Actually, Appa is a SkyBison-American

    Me: What? How are they going to cast that?
    Ken: they will hold an open casting call somewhere, and then hire a white person and claim no sky bison americans showed up to audition. So as long as you can act like appa well enough they might hire you.
    Me: Yay!
    Ken: But you need to be able to fit 4 children on your back. Preferably while swimming.

I do have one friend (American Born Japanese) who says "Asian, the other white meat." His context is that his wife is white and all her siblings are in inter-racial relationships. But the father-in-law comes to him to complain because he's not black or native American and therefore safe.

"The other white meat" kind of rings true in Asian communities, though. White is considered the best. In fact, brown Asians get a ton of shit. The amount of outrage for me dating a white guy is far lower than dating a black guy, latino guy, or even a brown Asian.

White people, sadly, are not the only one capable of being racist by a long shot.

Well...we'd be lesbos. That'd be hot That would be sinful.

White skin is highly regarded in East Asian cultures--to the point where they will bleach their skin with lead and mercury. The Brown people in Taiwan are usually illegal immigrant or contract workers from Southeast Asia and are considered "hired help." So if I were to date, say, a pinoy guy, it would be the equivalent of some Conservative WASP's daughter dating the Mexican pool boy.

It's really fucked up. Rick and I had a convo on this way back when
